D.C. Online Casino Bill Nears Deadline as Pennsylvania Eyes New Limits
0
Washington, D.C., lawmakers have only a few scheduled meetings left to advance a bill creating a regulated online casino market, as the measure has remained in committee since a May hearing. The proposal would allow an uncapped number of licensed operators, impose fees and a 25% tax on adjusted gaming revenue, and dedicate some tax proceeds to gambling addiction services; if it does not advance before the Council term ends in January 2027, it would need to be reintroduced. Separately, Pennsylvania lawmakers have proposed a broad package of online gambling restrictions, including deposit and wager limits, affordability checks, mandatory suspensions tied to losses, and tighter rules on payment methods and certain sports bets. The Pennsylvania proposal’s sponsors frame the measures as public-health and consumer protections, while the state’s regulated online gaming industry is also described as a significant source of tax revenue.
