Dakota Johnson Discusses Truth in ‘Verity’

The psychological thriller “Verity,” adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired to finish books for author Verity Crawford and discovers a disturbing manuscript at the Crawford family estate. Dakota Johnson, who plays Lowen, says the story’s shifting clues keep audiences questioning what is true and who can be trusted; Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett play Verity and her husband, Jeremy. Director Michael Showalter was drawn to the story’s glamorous but unsettling atmosphere, while Hartnett praised its refusal to spell out who the villain is, hoping it will spark debate. Hoover was involved in the adaptation, which also leans into the story’s erotic themes. The film is set for a global premiere on September 30.
