Demi Lovato Credits Kelly Clarkson for Singing Career

Demi Lovato says Kelly Clarkson was her first musical idol, inspired by Clarkson’s win on the inaugural season of American Idol and her performance of “A Moment Like This.” Lovato recalled watching the show with her family and hoping to follow in Clarkson’s footsteps, and said she practiced hitting higher notes by singing “Since U Been Gone.” When they finally met, Lovato hugged Clarkson three times and told her that she had shaped her career as a singer.
