Detroit officials project 40-45 percent turnout for 2026 election
Detroit election officials project 40% to 45% turnout in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election—about 105,000 to 125,000 voters. That would exceed the city’s 34% turnout in 2022 and approach the 42% recorded in 2018, with officials pointing to absentee-ballot returns and early voting as signs of increased participation. About 60,000 absentee ballots had been returned, and officials expect early voting and additional absentee ballots to add to the total. They urged voters returning absentee ballots close to Election Day to use a drop box or voting center rather than rely on mail. Detroit officials also said they are coordinating with other agencies on election security and access for observers.
