Devils Acquire Three-Time Vezina Winner Hellebuyck
The New Jersey Devils acquired three-time Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets, ending a months-long standoff after the goalie requested a trade and was suspended for missing training camp. Winnipeg received a package including forward Dawson Mercer, goaltender Nico Daws, prospect Alexander Command, forward Nick Bjugstad and two draft picks. Hellebuyck, who won the 2025 Hart Trophy and helped Team USA capture Olympic gold, gives New Jersey an elite goaltender without surrendering a core player and could make the Devils a stronger Stanley Cup contender. His regular-season record is exceptional, though his career playoff save percentage is lower, leaving postseason performance a key question. The move also gives the New York–New Jersey area Hellebuyck alongside the Rangers’ Igor Shesterkin and the Islanders’ Ilya Sorokin, creating a formidable concentration of goaltending talent.
