Djokovic Praises Serbian Students’ Election Victory
Student List won 140 of 250 seats in Serbia's parliamentary election. Aleksandar Vučić conceded on Sunday, ending his party's rule since 2012. On Tuesday at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, Novak Djokovic said he was very happy about the result. He offered his deepest respect to the students who fought and shown dignity and resilience, said he has lots of admiration for what they have done, and said they managed to create a sense of pride in Serbia and in the world. He added that the victory is secure and that hopes now turn to a prosperous future for the country. In another formulation he cited dignity and incredible resilience over the last two years under humongous pressure and said yes, he is satisfied. The movement grew from protests after the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse that killed 16 people in November 2024. Student List formed in May 2025. The vote was moved up one year from 2027. On December 19, 2024, Djokovic posted on X that he believes young people's voice should be heard, that Serbia has enormous potential, and that educated youth is its greatest strength, signing off "With you, Novak." WHAT'S CONTESTED: The record shows no dispute on the seat count, Vučić's concession, the Basel comments, the collapse death toll, or the dates.
