Djokovic’s Basel Loss Hits ATP Finals Hopes
Jan-Lennard Struff upset Novak Djokovic in a three-set round-of-16 match at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, winning 6-7(4), 7-5, 7-6(5) after two hours and 36 minutes. Struff, who had lost all eight of their previous meetings, struck 27 aces and saved all six break points he faced. The loss ended Djokovic’s Basel campaign and denied him a chance to close the 319-point gap to Rafael Jodar in the ATP Finals race; the Paris Masters is the last opportunity to improve his standing before the season-ending event. Struff advances to the quarterfinals, where he is scheduled to face Nuno Borges.
