Domestic violence vigils span multiple communities
Communities in Richmond, Lexington, Jackson and Bakersfield marked Domestic Violence Awareness Month with vigils and events honoring survivors and people killed by domestic violence. Survivors shared stories of loss, resilience and healing, while organizers emphasized that speaking up, community support and access to services can help people seek safety. In Richmond, police reported 1,010 domestic assault cases so far in 2026, 100 more than by the same point last year. Jackson events also highlighted prevention and connecting residents with support resources.
