Fond du Lac Driver Charged After Crash With Suspended License

Elmer Jose Cardona Bustillo is charged in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, with knowingly driving while his license was suspended and causing great bodily harm after allegedly striking a 50-year-old woman with Down syndrome in a crosswalk. The woman suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a Milwaukee hospital. According to the criminal complaint, Bustillo said he did not see her; reports say it was dark and she was wearing dark clothing. His cash bail was set at $25,000, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for October 23. Prosecutors say immigration records show he was ordered removed from the United States in 2015, and an ICE detainer is anticipated. Bustillo is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
