Drone Attack on Colombian Military Base Kills Three Soldiers
A drone attack using explosives struck a military base in Santa Rosa del Sur, in Colombia’s Bolívar department, killing three soldiers and injuring at least eight, according to the Army; casualty figures remain preliminary, and some higher injury estimates have not been confirmed. Authorities have not identified those responsible, and no group has claimed the attack. The gold-mining region is contested by armed groups including the Gulf Clan, the ELN and factions linked to the former FARC. President Abelardo de la Espriella condemned the attack and vowed to pursue those responsible, amid a broader escalation of attacks on Colombia’s armed forces.
