Egypt Reopens Tripoli Embassy After 12 Years
Egypt has reopened its embassy in Tripoli after more than a decade, a significant diplomatic outreach to Libya’s western-based Government of National Unity and a shift from Cairo’s longstanding support for eastern commander Khalifa Haftar. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, and the two sides agreed to expand cooperation, including through a health-care memorandum. Discussions also focused on energy projects such as gas links, oil refining and electricity connections. The diplomatic reset comes amid lingering tensions over a maritime agreement involving Libya and Türkiye that Egypt says infringes on its maritime claims, while Libya remains divided between rival authorities.
