ELEKTROS evaluates unverified lithium property in upstate New York
Global lithium demand could more than triple by 2050, driven by electric vehicles and energy storage, increasing pressure to expand mining, refining, recycling and supply-chain capacity. Against that backdrop, ELEKTROS Inc. says it is evaluating a potential hard-rock lithium property in upstate New York near the Canadian border, but the property has not been acquired and no mineral resource has been verified. A domestic source could reduce some shipping and import-related exposure for U.S. manufacturers, but mining viability, permitting, environmental responsibilities, transportation, refining access and customer qualification remain substantial hurdles. The company has no military contract, government award or assurance of imminent production; its separate EV-charging patent also has not established a commercial product.
