Elk Grove Man Convicted of Parents’ Murders for Inheritance
A Sacramento County jury convicted Mark Andre Tomas Navarrete of first-degree murder in the 2024 killings of his parents, finding that he murdered them for financial gain. Prosecutors said he stood to inherit half their estate and had grown resentful after they repaid relatives for debts from his fake investment schemes. They said he disguised himself, used a scooter to avoid cameras, killed his parents in their garage, then tried to cover his tracks by fleeing in their car and later texting them an invitation to dinner. Investigators linked him to the killings through camera footage and DNA found under his mother’s fingernails; he later returned with his children and pretended to discover the bodies. He faces life in prison without parole, with sentencing scheduled for November 2026.
