Rob Reiner wins posthumous Emmy, breaks decades-old record

Rob Reiner posthumously won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for playing Albert Schnurr in FX’s The Bear at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys, about nine months after his death at 78. The audience gave him a standing ovation, and presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on his behalf. It was Reiner’s third acting Emmy and came 48 years after his previous win for All in the Family, breaking the record previously held by his father, Carl Reiner. The award was the first posthumous Emmy for an on-camera performance since Raúl Juliá’s 1995 win. Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, died in December 2025, while their son, Nick Reiner, has pleaded not guilty to murder charges in the case. Elsewhere, Widow’s Bay led the early awards with eight wins, and The Pitt earned four, including a guest-acting award for first-time nominee Ernest Harden Jr.
