Resident Evil Reboot Set for September 18 Release
Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film follows Bryan, a medical courier played by Austin Abrams, who becomes trapped in a zombie outbreak while delivering a package to Raccoon City General Hospital. The 95-minute movie is an original story rather than a direct adaptation of specific game characters or plotlines, but aims to capture the atmosphere and experience of playing the games. It combines survival horror, grotesque body horror and dark comedy while maintaining its tension. The film features a 2,000-pound practical creature built by special-effects veteran Shane Mahan, known for his work on Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, alongside digital effects. Early reactions have praised its frightening atmosphere, visual ambition, relentless pace and Abrams’ performance, and Resident Evil is scheduled to open in theaters on September 18.
