Jelly Roll Weighs Music Future, Seeks God’s Direction
Jelly Roll, whose legal name is Jason DeFord, says he may leave the music industry if he believes God is calling him to a different purpose. In a March interview published Sept. 13, he said he has achieved the major goals he set for his career and could even work at a homeless shelter in Paducah, Kentucky, adding that fans might never see him again. He said he is sober, in therapy and studying the Bible while taking an extended break from touring and considering his next step. The comments come during a year marked by three Grammy Awards, a Billboard 200 No. 1 album, Grand Ole Opry membership, his divorce from Bunnie Xo and changes to his tour with Post Malone. He did not announce a retirement, leaving open the possibility that he will continue performing.
