New Found Glory founding guitarist Chad Gilbert dies at 45
Chad Gilbert, founding guitarist and songwriter of New Found Glory, died peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 20 at age 45, surrounded by family and friends, including his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, and mother, Jackie. Gilbert had battled cancer since 2021 and underwent emergency brain surgery in March after three tumors were discovered; he later returned to perform in a wheelchair as his health deteriorated. Formed in Florida in 1997, New Found Glory became a major pop-punk act through more than a dozen albums, extensive touring and songs including “My Friends Over You” and “Hit or Miss.” Bandmates praised Gilbert’s guitar playing, songwriting, humor, drive and perseverance, saying his influence would remain part of the group. Tributes emphasized that Gilbert considered being a husband and father his greatest accomplishment.
