Jon Stewart Extends Daily Show Deal Through 2028
Jon Stewart extended his Comedy Central deal to host The Daily Show on Mondays and serve as executive producer through December 2028, Skydance Television announced on Oct. 19, 2026. The 63-year-old, who hosted from 1999 to 2015 and returned part-time in 2024, stays through the November 2028 presidential election after his contract neared December expiration. The show airs at 11 p.m. weeknights; rotating hosts include Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt. George Cheeks called Stewart a generational talent and The Daily Show one of television's most influential franchises and a Comedy Central cornerstone, saying the company is excited to continue the partnership. The company cited two Emmys this year, the strongest third-quarter audience in eight years per Nielsen, and 1.9 billion social media views. Outlets noted Stewart's trolling of Donald Trump on cognitive tests, his April view that Democrats are lost between moderate and left-wing firebrand stories, and his advocacy: 2019 testimony on the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund and a PACT Act fix for troops exposed to radiation in Afghanistan. No contested claims identified.
