MCR Agrees to Drop Dallas Cheerleader-Inspired Costumes
My Chemical Romance agreed to change the outfits worn by dancers in the remaining Hollywood Bowl shows after the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ parent company, Pro Silver Star, sued over costumes it said copied the squad’s distinctive blue-and-white uniform. The dancers can still perform the cheer routine and take part in the band’s staged dystopian firefight, but must no longer wear look-alike outfits. The dispute followed performances in which dancers carried prop rifles and were depicted being shot, prompting the cheerleaders to seek an emergency court order over alleged trademark infringement and confusion about endorsement. The agreement was reached before a hearing, while legal experts had said First Amendment protections could complicate the claims.
