Joe Miñoso Exits Chicago Fire in 300th Episode

Joe Miñoso exited Chicago Fire in its 300th episode, ending his run as original cast member and firefighter Joe Cruz after more than 14 years. After recovering from a serious spinal injury and learning he could soon return to duty, Cruz chose to leave Firehouse 51 and move with his wife, Chloe, and their newborn twin daughters to Minnesota, where the family can get support and he can continue his recovery. His decision was prompted in part by his son’s plea that another father take the risks, and the episode showed emotional farewells with Severide and the crew, a squad photo, and a visit to the memorial of his late friend Otis. Miñoso called the sendoff an honor, plans to direct an episode of the series this season, and has said he hopes Cruz might return someday.
