Netflix Orders Stranger Things Prequel for 2028

Netflix ordered Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for a planned 2028 premiere. The live-action prequel is set in 1955 in Marion, Nevada. Creators announced it on Stranger Things Day, November 6, 2026. Kate Trefry co-creates and showruns with Matt and Ross Duffer; Joe Wright will direct the first three episodes. Production is slated for New Mexico. A teaser shows an abandoned bicycle outside a restricted area at night with The Chords' Sh-Boom (Life Could Be a Dream) on its radio. The story involves young Henry Creel and a glowing rock or strange substance from a scientist's briefcase in season 5. Matt and Ross Duffer said the series will answer that open question but is its own mythology and very different. Ross wrote that Finn Wolfhard correctly guessed the premise after Wolfhard said in 2023 he had figured it out. The show predates The First Shadow (1959) and the original series (1983-1987). Casting and an exact date remain unannounced. No contested facts; coverage differs only in which plot, teaser, or franchise details it foregrounds.
