Television Guitarist Richard Lloyd Dies at 75
Richard Lloyd, Television’s co-founder and guitarist, has died at 75 at his home in Chattanooga, Tennessee, from cholangiocarcinoma, a bile duct cancer diagnosed in March. With Tom Verlaine, Lloyd forged Television’s distinctive twin-guitar sound, blending punk’s energy with intricate, often jazz- and art-rock-influenced playing. His work on the band’s influential 1977 debut, “Marquee Moon,” helped shape punk, post-punk and alternative music. Television was also among the early bands to play CBGB, helping establish the New York club as a center of the punk and new wave scenes.
