Mother Bear Dies During Albuquerque Capture, Cubs Rescued
A mother bear died from injuries sustained during a capture operation at Albuquerque’s Tanoan golf course, where wildlife officials were responding to the bear and her two cubs. The cubs were captured and relocated to suitable habitat away from populated areas; officials said such operations carry risks despite efforts to use safe methods. New Mexico has reported increased bear activity, with drought pushing bears toward neighborhoods in search of food and water, and officials urged residents to secure trash and other attractants and avoid approaching bears. Separately, a 25-year-old Himalayan black bear named Fafori died at a zoo in Raipur, India, with zoo management attributing her death to age-related causes.
