Geely and Leapmotor earn five-star Euro NCAP ratings under tougher 2026 rules

Euro NCAP’s updated 2026 safety testing has awarded five-star ratings to multiple Chinese electric models, including the Aion UT, Geely E2, and Leapmotor B05, while the Cupra Raval reached five stars only when equipped with an optional Safety Pack. Euro NCAP said Chinese cars are rapidly increasing their presence in Europe, with their models submitted for testing growing sharply since 2021, and described the latest results as evidence that manufacturers are meeting European expectations. For the Geely E2, which is also rated highly in Australia and New Zealand, the updated protocols emphasized real-world driving scenarios and tougher requirements, and the E2 stood out especially in safe-driving and post-crash performance. ANCAP and Euro NCAP testing reports for the Geely EX2/E2 family show strong overall protection scores, including effective post-crash management of electric components, but they also highlight limitations such as inconsistent advanced emergency braking performance, some functions relying too heavily on the central touchscreen, and weaknesses in lower-speed maneuvers or driver-leg protection. Overall, the Geely E2/EX2 lineup is being positioned as a top-performing, value-focused entry-level EV that can achieve top-tier safety ratings under the newest assessment criteria, despite specific technical gaps noted by testers.
