EuroLeague CEO says league is ready to rival NBA in Europe

The NBA and EuroLeague remain open to a partnership on the proposed NBA Europe competition, which is expected to launch before or during the 2027-28 season, but no agreement has been reached. EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno said the league will cooperate only through a mutually beneficial arrangement that combines the NBA’s operational and commercial expertise with European clubs’ local knowledge, brands and established fan bases. If negotiations fail, EuroLeague is prepared to compete directly, while continuing its own expansion plans, including potential franchises in cities such as Paris, London, Milan and Naples. Both sides acknowledge that competing leagues could fragment media rights, attendance and the broader value of European basketball, even as the NBA advances plans backed by FIBA and attracts substantial bids from clubs and investors. Former NBA champion Tony Parker also expressed hope for an agreement while focusing on his new role as ASVEL’s head coach.
