Eurozone GDP Growth Hits Four-Year High at 0.6%
The eurozone economy grew 0.6% in the second quarter of 2026 from the previous quarter, while the EU expanded 0.7%, according to Eurostat, marking the eurozone’s strongest quarterly performance since mid-2022 after stagnation in the first quarter. Eurozone GDP growth was revised up from an initial 0.4% estimate, with Ireland’s 10.2% rebound driving much of the improvement, although Ireland’s underlying domestic demand fell 0.8%, highlighting the influence of multinational companies. Germany’s growth was revised to 0.3%, while France recorded no quarterly growth; annual GDP growth reached 1.2% in the eurozone and 1.4% in the EU. Employment also increased, rising 0.1% from the previous quarter and 0.5% year over year in the eurozone, with Portugal, Czechia and Malta among the strongest performers.
