Ex-LA Deputy Sentenced in False Warrant Case

A former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy, David Anthony Rodriguez, was sentenced to 12 months in federal prison for lying in a search-warrant affidavit to obtain GPS tracking data for a private client’s estranged husband during a contentious divorce. He pleaded guilty in July 2025 to one count of conspiracy against rights and had been working for a private security company owned by a colleague from the LASD while still employed as a deputy. Investigators say Rodriguez obtained the warrant under false pretenses, claiming a robbery investigation linked to the husband; the GPS data was then used to track him to Utah and was shared with his private-security employer. Prosecutors allege Rodriguez’s work for the private security company often involved other active law enforcement officers and helped a client with intimidating or monitoring a target connected to a divorce dispute. The LASD condemned the misconduct, stating the department cooperated with federal investigators, and Rodriguez’s actions do not reflect the values of its rank-and-file officers.
