EY Reports U.S. Oil Firms Favor Development
U.S. oil and gas producers continued prioritizing development over exploration in 2025: exploration spending fell 11% to $4.8 billion, while development spending rose 4% to $78.7 billion, reflecting a focus on existing assets and near-term production. M&A spending also dropped sharply after the previous year’s consolidation wave. Separately, TotalEnergies awarded SLB a 15-year contract for global well-planning software, Chevron announced executive changes effective in 2027, and Crescent Energy agreed to buy Devon Energy’s Eagle Ford assets for $4.2 billion. Baker Hughes also signed agreements aimed at developing Venezuela’s gas infrastructure and future oil and gas prospects.
