Faith Leaders Across Traditions Call Voting Sacred
Religious leaders and commentators describe voting as both a civic responsibility and an expression of faith, urging people to participate rather than withdraw from public life. At a Dallas interfaith event, Muslim, Hindu and Christian panelists framed the vote as a way to act on moral convictions, influence policies and hold elected officials accountable. Christian appeals also urge voters to weigh candidates and issues against biblical values, while a United Methodist message emphasizes voting as a witness of love of neighbor and calls for humility, compassion and work for the common good regardless of political differences. A separate commentary argues that voters should scrutinize candidates’ promises to uphold the Constitution, condemning lawmakers who, it says, have ceded Congress’s constitutional authority over declarations of war.
