Families Celebrate Centenarian, Remember Texas Community Figures
Three Texas communities are mourning residents remembered for their family ties, faith and service. Gloria Lee Alves Jones, 82, of Seguin, died Nov. 1; she sang in her church choir and volunteered at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. Rita Merle Tucker Jones, 96, who died Oct. 29 in Terrell, worked in quality control and was active in church, charitable and community activities, including supporting nursing scholarships. A memorial service in Refugio honored Toya Jones, a former Texas A&M football and track standout who died at 49; family, friends and former coach R.C. Slocum recalled not only his athletic achievements but also his warmth and ability to bring people together.
