FBI warns voters of 2026 election scams
The FBI is warning that scammers are exploiting the 2026 midterm elections through fake political fundraising solicitations, bogus merchandise sales, supposed campaign investment pools and messages falsely claiming recipients are not registered to vote. Fraudsters may use AI-generated voices and messages, convincing conversations and websites that closely resemble legitimate campaign or political action committee pages to obtain money or personal information. Consumer and cybersecurity experts say these operations are organized and take advantage of heightened interest in elections, including voters’ willingness to make last-minute donations. The FBI advises people not to click links from unknown senders, to remember that campaign contributions are not investments, and to report suspected scams to the agency or its Internet Crime Complaint Center.
