Trump Panel Sets Dec. 14 Hearing on Fed Governor Lisa Cook
The White House has rescheduled to Dec. 14 a hearing originally set for Nov. 5 on Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. In October President Trump created a three-member committee of inquiry—Kevin Hassett, EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas, and Office of Government Ethics Director Keith Sonderling—to examine allegations that Cook made false statements on mortgage applications by listing two properties as primary residences. Then-FHFA Director Bill Pulte filed a criminal referral to the Justice Department last year. Trump first tried to fire Cook in August 2025. No president has ever removed a sitting Federal Reserve governor. The Supreme Court ruled on June 29 that Trump cannot fire a Fed governor at will without due process, blocking her removal for now while leaving the broader dispute unresolved. Cook’s lawyer Abbe Lowell wrote on Oct. 14 that questions about the committee and its investigation had to be addressed first and that a hearing could not occur until December at the earliest. Just The News reported her lawyers raised significant concerns that the panel of Trump political appointees lacks impartiality, citing the president’s past threats and the actions and comments of its members.
