FIFA plans limited access to World Cup sell-off documents
FIFA has invited members of its Council to review key documents about the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, which would have given private investors a minority stake in the commercial operations of the World Cup and other competitions. Council members must register their interest and inspect the material in person at FIFA’s Zurich headquarters under confidentiality conditions; the documents currently available are understood to relate only to the proposal. UEFA had requested answers and supporting records on FFE and other issues concerning Gianni Infantino’s presidency, but FIFA considered its deadline for a response on the full set of questions unfeasible and says a broader response will follow. The proposal was dropped after opposition from several continental confederations and UEFA’s threat of a boycott, while UEFA’s legal action in the United States may also constrain what FIFA can disclose.
