Fiji begins six-month intelligence review with New Zealand support
Fiji has begun a six-month partnership with New Zealand’s Security Intelligence Service, funded by Wellington, to assess its intelligence system and recommend reforms. The review will address fragmentation among agencies, including how intelligence functions are organized, information is shared, and governance, staffing, operations, oversight and accountability are handled. The move comes amid U.S. allegations that China-linked hackers accessed a regional organization’s network in Fiji and claims of Chinese influence and bribery; Beijing has rejected the cyber allegations and criticized what it calls politicization. Fiji has not identified a specific threat as the reason for the review, which is intended to strengthen coordination and national security decision-making.
