Filmmaker Reimagines Dallas Outlaw Western 15 Years Later
Several stories explore how regional identity is preserved and reshaped through history, storytelling and place. Texas filmmaker Tanner Beard has reworked his earlier Western into “Once Upon a Time in Texas,” combining remastered footage with new scenes and a story connecting 1870s Texas, Dallas and the Old West. In Tulsa, Jon Boorstin draws on writings by his father, historian Daniel J. Boorstin, to examine how the city shaped his father’s life and influential view of American history. Dallas developer Jim Lake Jr. built his career by redeveloping overlooked historic properties, including areas that became the Bishop Arts District and Design District. An Arizona-based independent novelist’s upcoming eighth book also reflects the continuing role of the American West as a setting and source of contemporary literature.
