WalletHub Ranks 182 US Cities for Safety
WalletHub’s 2026 analysis ranked 182 U.S. cities using 41 indicators covering home and community safety, natural-disaster risk, and financial security. Juneau, Alaska, ranked safest, followed by Warwick, Rhode Island; Overland Park, Kansas; Burlington, Vermont; and South Burlington, Vermont, while New Orleans ranked last. Philadelphia placed 178th and Jacksonville 176th, with Jacksonville scoring poorly across all three categories and ranking lowest among Florida cities. Baltimore ranked 180th and Washington, D.C., 165th; Buffalo was identified as the 45th-least-safe city. The measures included crime and traffic fatalities, disaster exposure, unemployment, poverty, health-insurance coverage, and other factors, so the rankings assess more than crime alone.
