Six Arrested in Alleged $1.4M Walmart Fraud
Six people were arrested after a two-month investigation into an alleged Walmart.com fraud operation that police say used stolen customer account and payment information to place about 15,500 orders. The investigation began after a delivery driver reported numerous packages addressed to different names at one Peoria home, and authorities say a customer later reported account hacking. Investigators traced more than 11,000 orders worth at least $768,000 to six drop houses, with merchandise allegedly consolidated in the Phoenix area and shipped through California to Vietnam; estimates of the overall scheme range from $1.2 million to $1.4 million. Authorities identified Hoài Nguyen Nguyen as the alleged organizer, though he denied involvement, and seized about $25,000 in merchandise, $35,000 in cash and $45,000 in gold bars. The six suspects face charges including fraud, identity theft, computer tampering and trafficking in stolen property.
