Fed Plans Strategy Meetings, Fewer Rate Decisions
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh said the central bank will shift one of its eight annual meetings next year from setting interest rates to discussing broader monetary-policy strategy, with the change expected to begin next fall. The strategy meeting will not include a rate decision or a post-meeting statement, leaving seven meetings for rate-setting. Warsh said the Fed plans to hold two strategy meetings in 2028, arguing that the format will give officials more time to consider longer-term economic questions while retaining the regular schedule of eight meetings. The announcement followed the Fed’s decision to leave interest rates unchanged.
