Fire damages Clinton assisted living facility and displaces 102
A fire on October 21, 2026, at Brookdale Senior Living in Clinton, Mississippi, forced the evacuation of 102 residents. Clinton communications director Marlee Price-Cook said crews responded around 5 p.m. Firefighters from Clinton, Jackson, Raymond and Hinds County fought the blaze. A city spokesperson said the majority of the building is gone, with wire reports of two wings destroyed. Evacuees went to Morrison Heights Baptist Church to reunite with family. Witness John Maxwell said people were screaming and running and that he and others rolled wheelchair-bound residents away from the spreading fire. Duval Salvant rushed to help his grandparents and offered a spare bed. Governor Tate Reeves called it "truly an awful situation" and thanked first responders. Price-Cook said some residents were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries; a later local report said no injuries had been reported. Officials said they did not believe the fire was arson. The cause remains under investigation, and secondary searches of rooms were conducted after the evacuation.
