Fire Engulfs Germany’s Eagle’s Nest, Suspect Detained
A major fire broke out Friday night at the Kehlsteinhaus, the Bavarian mountain retreat known as the Eagle’s Nest, and firefighters faced difficult access because of the site’s remote location and high elevation. Police detained a suspect, but investigators have not established whether the person was connected to the fire; the Traunstein Criminal Investigation Division is leading the inquiry. Authorities reported no injuries and said the building was believed to be empty when the fire began. The former Nazi-era site now operates as a mountain restaurant and historical exhibition venue.
