Firefighters rescue seven from elevator shafts
Atlantic City firefighters rescued two women from a stalled elevator about 190 feet down a blind shaft at the Borgata after a nearly three-hour operation on Oct. 22; specialized rope teams lowered rescuers into the shaft and hoisted the women out one at a time, with no injuries reported. In a separate Manhattan incident at 3 World Trade Center, FDNY firefighters rescued five people from an elevator trapped in a blind shaft by rappelling roughly 175 feet and breaking through a bathroom wall to reach the car; one civilian and two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
