Fireproofed $12M Sonoma Estate Lists After Wildfire Rebuild
A newly built, fire-resilient Sonoma Valley estate on 14 acres is listed for $12 million, nearly a decade after the 2017 wildfires destroyed the property; its design includes layered fireproofing, broad valley views and an infinity-edge pool. The owner, who also lost a home in the fires, developed the site with architect Sean Bailey after buying the charred lot and reshaping its steep terrain. Separately, a distinctive Santa Rosa home designed by Lawrence Simons incorporates massive granite outcroppings, handcrafted stonework and two guest residences. In Palm Desert, winemakers George and Pamela Hamel built a 10,000-square-foot family compound designed to draw their children and grandchildren together, using desert-responsive features such as shade, courtyards and thermal mass.
