Five States Sue TP-Link Over Router Security Claims

Florida, Iowa, Montana and Nebraska have sued California-based TP-Link Systems, joining Texas, alleging the router maker misled consumers about its products’ security and its separation from China. The states cite security flaws exploited by state-backed hackers and argue that Chinese law and the company’s supply-chain ties raise data-security risks; most complaints describe Chinese government access to customer data as a possibility, while Iowa’s announcement used stronger language. The suits also challenge TP-Link’s security marketing, including claims about its HomeShield protection. TP-Link denies the allegations, says it is an independent U.S. company, and says it will fight the lawsuits. Separately, attorneys general from 21 states urged the FCC to consider their concerns as TP-Link seeks approval for new router models.
