Flooded Florida Sanctuary Uses Drones to Feed 200 Chimps
Historic flooding inundated Save the Chimps, a 150-acre sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida, making it difficult for staff to reach its more than 200 rescued chimpanzees. The animals are safe in elevated care houses, but caregivers have used drones to deliver food and blankets while navigating the property with tractors and other large vehicles. The flooding has also damaged roads and equipment, disrupting routine operations as the sanctuary works to maintain the chimps’ food, medication and daily care.
