Flooding Evacuates 16 El Paso Homes
Heavy rain and severe thunderstorms swept through El Paso on Saturday, causing flash flooding, hail, road closures and a water rescue. City officials evacuated 16 homes near Dawnlight after a reservoir overflowed and activated the Emergency Operations Center; no injuries were reported, and evacuees had places to stay. A flood watch remained in effect through 6 a.m. Sunday for parts of El Paso and southern New Mexico, with storms capable of producing more heavy rain, hail and damaging winds. By Sunday, the main storm threat was expected to shift east, though isolated storms remained possible locally. Forecasters warned that rain chances could return later in the week, with heavy rain and localized flooding possible as another system approaches.
