Mississippi flash floods force multiple water rescues overnight

Flash flooding in Pearl River County, Mississippi, prompted overnight water rescues and road closures, with particularly severe conditions reported near highways 43 and 26. Rescuers pulled five people from vehicles, helped seven residents evacuate their homes, and received reports of flooding at eight homes; a local resident also helped several people escape rising water. An emergency alert northeast of Crossroads reported 6 to 10 inches of rain, ongoing swift-water rescues and dangerous flooding, urging people to move to higher ground and stay off flooded roads.
