Florence Man Charged in Grandmother’s Stabbing Death

A 23-year-old Florence man, Caleb Dakota Druckemiller, was charged with murder after deputies found his 64-year-old grandmother, Janice Campbell Murphy, fatally stabbed inside her home on Highway 157 in Lauderdale County. Deputies said Druckemiller and a witness were at the residence when they arrived; investigators collected evidence and interviewed them before arresting him. He is being held without bond pending an Aniah’s Law hearing, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed a motive; reports also note Druckemiller was previously charged in 2022 in connection with an alleged attack on Murphy with a pipe wrench.
