Football Teams Post Mixed Midseason Fortunes

As the 2026 football season reaches its closing weeks or midpoint, teams are experiencing sharply different fortunes. In South Dakota high school football, Mitchell, Canton and Waubay/Summit have rebounded from missing last year’s playoffs and are now positioned to qualify, while other programs are chasing top-four seeds. Oakwood and Salt Fork, both already playoff-bound, meet in the final week with their Salt Kettle Classic rivalry trophy and momentum on the line. At the college level, Washington State’s 1-5 start has been marked by an anemic offense and mounting fan frustration, while Texas A&M is 3-3 after struggling against SEC opponents, leaving its playoff hopes diminished and questions across the roster.
