Ford Ends Lightning, Plans Affordable Electric Pickups

Ford has discontinued the F-150 Lightning after ending production in December 2025, with only a few hundred new trucks reportedly remaining at dealerships. The automaker says it will continue supporting more than 100,000 Lightning owners through a maintenance program, including battery coverage for eight years or 100,000 miles. Ford’s next electric pickup strategy begins with the midsize Fathom, scheduled for early 2027 on the company’s Universal Electric Vehicle platform at a starting price below $30,000 before delivery fees. A larger extended-range electric pickup using a gasoline generator is also planned to succeed the Lightning’s role, with Ford projecting more than 700 miles of total range. In contrast, Chevrolet is retaining the Silverado EV for 2027, though with modest price increases and fewer trim options, making it one of the few full-size electric pickups still available.
