Ford Quality Gains Amid Mustang Recall, Reliability Gaps

The Mazda3 has emerged as one of the more dependable compact cars after weaker reliability results in its early years, with later models benefiting from updates and offering strong driving dynamics, styling and practicality. Ford says it has improved vehicle quality by moving from identifying defects after production to preventing them earlier, including by adding more than 350 technical specialists; the company subsequently ranked first among mass-market brands in J.D. Power’s 2026 Initial Quality Study, up sharply from 23rd three years earlier. However, Ford continues to face quality-related costs, including a recall of nearly 149,000 2024–2026 Mustangs over wiring harnesses that can cause loss of drive power, headlights or cooling functions, as well as smaller campaigns involving engine and cylinder-head defects. The Mustang remains a distinctive and generally above-average sports car for reliability, though its record varies by model year and generation. Together, the reports suggest that recent improvements have strengthened reliability for some vehicles, but recalls and recurring warranty expenses remain important concerns for Ford owners and investors.
